Shisteel employs advanced production processes, environmental protection treatment, and energy-saving technologies, achieving over 75% reduction in pollutant and carbon emissions on a comparable basis. The smelting raw material is recyclable scrap steel resources. The domestic first twin-shaft scrap preheating DC electric arc furnace reduces energy consumption by 45% compared to traditional electric furnaces. Advanced flue gas treatment technology enables particulate matter and dioxin emission levels far superior to ultra-low emission standards. The main energy sources used in production are electricity and natural gas. The short-process eliminates coal-intensive steps such as sintering and ironmaking, achieving a clean energy structure with zero coal and zero coke. Technologies such as wide-flat flame burners for heating furnaces and composite insulation heat storage preheat incoming air to over 450°C, reducing energy consumption. Waste heat from support beam vaporization cooling is recovered for power generation and reinvested in production. Industrial waste heat provides winter heating for over 3 million square meters of residential area in Jingxing Mining District.
Shisteel is deeply integrated with the city, striving to become a model of environmentally friendly enterprise. Using mining district reclaimed water as the source, 100% of industrial wastewater is recycled, achieving "zero" wastewater discharge. It is the first in the metallurgical industry to adopt fractional salt evaporation crystallization treatment for concentrated brine, extracting crystalline salts such as sodium chloride and mirabilite for external sale, achieving dual improvements in environmental and economic benefits.
Shisteel's green development has gained widespread social recognition. In 2021, it was awarded the title of "Green Short-Process Special Steel Intelligent Manufacturing Demonstration Factory" by four ministries including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. In March 2022, it passed the national ultra-low emission expert acceptance and was reviewed and filed by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, becoming the first short-process steel enterprise in China to achieve full-process ultra-low emissions. In December 2022, it entered the list of Environmental Performance Grade A enterprises. In March 2023, it was awarded the title of "National Green Factory." In June 2023, it was evaluated by the Environmental Impact Assessment Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment as an enterprise with leading green development in the steel industry. In February 2025, it was awarded the honorary title of "China Iron and Steel Industry Clean Production and Environment-Friendly Enterprise".
Shisteel has developed carbon reduction development planning around four stages: "carbon peaking, significant decline, steady decline, and deep decarbonization." Carbon emissions will peak in 2023, be reduced by 60% by 2030, and achieve carbon neutrality by 2035.
